As alot of you warhammer fans out there should know a new imperial codex out and I am not sure what to make of it to be honest. The doctrines system that used to let you personalize your regement (or get an unfair advantage in my case) has been scrapped and the only reminder that it ever exisisted is a selection of 3 doctrines for veteran squads (which admitiddly are the only troops I ever use) ,none for basic guardsmen squads, and to put you even further off feilding guardsmen squads other than the lack of doctirines the Balistic skill of 3 (veterans have a balistic skill of 4) the lack of krak grenades (oh look veterans have those too) the fact that they're only cheaper buy 20 points their in-ability to use heavy flamers, shot guns or melee weapons. they now have to come as an infantry platoon. An infantry platoon has to include either 2 guardsmen squads or a guardsman squad and a heavy weapons squad as well as a new 'Platoon command squad' consisting of 1 platoon commander and 4 regular guardsman.Seriously? Come on a 5 man squad in flak armour is just an easy kill point for the enemy.Fail GW.However there are some good points to this new codex : vehcile squadrons. These allow you to take 3 vehciles as just 1 heavy support/fast attack choice meaning if you take tank heavy support options and tank fast attack options you can feild 18 tanks then if you take Chimera transports for all your HQ's ,Elites and troops you have an impressive 29 tanks on the battle feild and thats enough to un-nerve even the most excperienced oppnenet.
